High Street Project

It’s amazing what a bit of foresight can achieve.  Here we have a classic example of two homeowners who are systematically and sympathetically renovating their heritage property in Dunedin Centre City.  And the Master Builder team at RenoMasters were asked to join in their journey.

When the owners came to us they had a clear picture in their brief regarding what they wanted to achieve with the renovation of their kitchen and living area.  This was to restore the high ceilings (that had previously been lowered), expose an exterior double red brick wall (as a feature wall), to have bamboo floating floorboards and a stainless-steel benchtop fitted in their new kitchen.

The renovation, however, did not go without a couple of interesting twists. Namely the extensive borer in the floorboards and asbestos floor covering all of which had to be repaired and removed. Not to mention to everyone’s surprise whilst at the demolition stage the builders stumbled across hidden access to a secret room in the basement below, also a spare Kauri staircase!

To bring the property up to current code the electrics and lighting (including LED strip feature lighting) as well as plumbing had to be upgraded, along with fitting new insulation to the ceiling, underfloor and walls (where possible), gibbed the internal wall linings, plastered and painted and installed a custom made modern kitchen with matching new appliances.

As you can see from the end result our clients are delighted with their new and functional open plan kitchen space and they now enjoy cooking and entertaining in their new environment. A far cry from the 1970’s ensemble that they left behind.
